The Hi-Lo card counting system was developed in order to help the total beginners and the intermediate players. This system makes everything easier for the player – actually, it is one of the most common weapons of choice that can be used by the blackjack teams. The main reason why this system is so efficient is that it works quite well when applied to the learning curve of every blackjack team. First, you should start by paying attention to the following values that belong to each card in the deck.

2, 3, 4 , 5, 6 Count +1
7, 8, 9 Count 0
10, J, Q, K, A Count -1

There are some separate groups dealing with the card values. The small cards (2-6) are counted as +1 as they are played. The 12 middle cards (7-9) are neutral cards and will not change the card counting as they are played. The 20 big cards (10-Ace) are counted as -1 as they are played. The whole system is regarded as a balanced one because every card is going to be counted in the 52 card deck and the player will end up with the count of 0. Every card is going to change the way you count and you will have to face a continuous battle between the low cards and the high ones in order to control the card counting.

Remember that the smaller the cards, the higher the odds of winning. When you are dealing with less smaller cards, you will be more likely to be dealt blackjack. The count at the blackjack table starts at 0 – starting with the initial 0 count, you will continue by adding 1 and adding 1 or subtracting 1 and you will have to do this for every card that will be dealt in the deck. Once you miss the cards by accident and your card counting gets off, you will shift your own odds of winning without even being aware of this. You must keep in mind that your first step in learning this system is to try and get familiar with all the point values of the cards that are played. Therefore, you should get the deck of cards and try to turn them over, each one at a time in order to recite and memorize their actual value. Here is an easy tip for you to follow when trying to get familiar with these values – for the high cards, you can try and say M-one and for the low cards, you can try and say just one. You can leave the neutral cards aside because you will not have to say anything for them. Once you will get familiar with all the card values, you will have to continue by keeping this running count for your whole deck. But this time you will have to subtract and add all the cards. Here is an example taken from a specialist’s piece of advice

1st card = King. The count is: M-one.
2nd card= Ace. The count is: M-two.
3rd card = 9. The count is still: M-two.
4th card = Jack. The count is: M-three.
5th card =5. The count is: M-two.
6th card = 4. The count is M-one.
7th card = 3. The is: Even (You don’t have to see anything.)
8th card = 6. The count is One.
9th card = 7. The count is still: One
